Tune Inn to Reopen Nov. 4th

November 2, 2011

We are happy to announce that the Tune Inn is reopening. Four months after a kitchen fire closed the Tune Inn Restaurant and Bar, the Capitol Hill landmark is reopening its doors and kitchen.  On the afternoon of Friday, November 4 the Tune Inn will reopen after significant rehabilitation.  On June 22, 2011 a large fire in the kitchen caused the immediate closure of the Tune Inn. While the restaurant and bar area was mostly spared from the flames, there was significant smoke and water damage that needed to be repaired in addition to the complete rebuilding of the kitchen. In July, nearly $40,000 was raised by The Friends of the Tune Inn at an event to support the staff of the Tune Inn who were without work while the restaurant was closed for repairs.

Nearly 700 friends of the Tune Inn attended the July 15 fundraiser at the American Legion Post No.8 to regroup, share stories, and raise money for the staff of the Tune Inn affected by the fire.  Your overwhelming show of support exceeded all expectations and helped raise nearly $33,000, which was just about two-thirds of our goal.

Friends of the Tune Inn from neighbors to long time friends helped to make the event a success.  Local Businesses generously provided hors de’ oeuvres to nourish attendees as well as items for the silent auction and raffle while 4 bands took turns entertaining the crowd.  Look for pictures of the festivities and a list of all the local businesses and bands that donated time and goods to the event.  We will continue to update this website, to read more about the event click here.

The donation drive continues.  We’re still accepting online donations and we are also selling limited-edition plaques.  If you are interested in a plaque, please contact Friends of Tune Inn at friendsoftuneinn@yahoo.com.

After sustaining thousands of dollars in damages when a fire destroyed the kitchen of the legendary Tune Inn Restaurant and Bar on the morning of June 22, a group of Capitol Hill residents and businesses have come together to support the institution and its staff.  A fundraiser is being organized to help the staff meet their needs while the Tune Inn is closed.

The fundraiser will be held just blocks away from the Tune Inn at the American Legion Post 8 at 224 D Street, SE from 3- 10:00 pm on July 15. In order to adequately support the 10 staff not covered by insurance while the restaurant is closed about $50,000 needs to be raised.

The fundraiser will feature live music, raffle prizes from Capitol Hill businesses and artists, and the chance to buy Tune Inn memorabilia. Local businesses have generously agreed to donate food for the event.
